Paul Geresy

Merrimack College/Independent

As a performer, Paul is a musical chameleon who can function in a wide variety of musical settings ranging from touring in Europe with a jazz quintet, sight reading studio sessions and big band gigs, and performing on albums with American Idol Finalists.

As an educator, Paul has taught on all levels and is a strong advocate for developing student centered curriculum that meets the needs of the individual. He’s done this through writing 200 pages of instructional materials that are in use at some of the most respected college music programs in the country.

Paul serves as the first Director of Bands at Merrimack College where he oversees the instrumental performing ensembles. These ensembles perform over 80 times each year and have been featured on national television, with international travel scheduled for Fall 2024.

  • WORDS OF WISDOM FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF DRUMMERS

For me, creativity is a muscle that can be exercised. I try to practice creativity daily. If it's problem solving or music, approaching it from different perspective can often yield surprising results. I draw inspiration from my colleagues, students, and other art mediums outside of music - particularly visual art.

  • FAVORITE ZILDJIAN CYMBAL/COMBO

I keep a variety of implements in my stick bag. As a performer, I'm often making music in different setting from one gig to the next. It's important for me to be able to dial in the sound and feel of playing music in the space where I'm playing. VF makes such a great palette of sticks, mallets, and brushes. I use them in every educational setting I'm in too. From Marching Band to our jazz combo, I can cover all our needs with VF!
