Jake Barnabas

The Luka State

Born and raised in Cheshire, Jake Barnabas is the drummer and backing vocalist of English rock and roll band The Luka State.

Beside music, he had some high standard football experiences and nearly turned professional in that venture. Coming through Macclesfield Towns academy to play for Altrinchams first team, it took Jake till his mid-twenties to play to a bigger crowd in music than football.

After a severe knee injury prematurely ended his football career, he jumped all in on honing his drumming craft and managed to land himself the role as The Luka State drummer.

Since being in The Luka State, Jake has gone on to play such UK festivals as Reading and Isle of Wight. As well as supporting Feeder. Jake has recorded in some historic English studios, two of which being The Pool, Miloco studios London, and The Motor Museum in Liverpool.

Beside playing, Jake has taught many classes around Cheshire within high schools and held a full-time Music Teaching role around touring duties.

  • WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

In the studio recording our album, most of the songs were recorded without a click. There was a song that needed an edit from another take, and the click-less tracks were that locked to a tempo that we were still able to do edits. The producer and engineer couldn't believe it.

  • WORDS OF WISDOM FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF DRUMMERS

It's a hunger and a desperation. My competitive nature mixed with my passion for drumming drives me back to the kit to improve after seeing performances I like or clinicians or whoever influences me on that particular day.

  • FAVORITE ZILDJIAN CYMBAL/COMBO

A little like in Harry Potter, I feel like the stick chooses you. After feeling the balance of a Vic Firth 2B Nylon tipped stick, my search ended and I've never used anything else.
