AJ Rousell

AJ Rousell is a professional Drummer, Educator, Clinician, Author, and Drum Camp Founder.

Having been passionate about drums and music since a young age, AJ has dedicated his life to mastering his craft. His experience as a professional drummer and educator has led him to being a regularly called upon musician. AJ has recorded at a number of studios (including his own in Bristol) and performed live with artists such as FirewoodIsland, Danny McMahon, Tina Boonstra, Katie O'Malley, Natalie Holmes, Our Atlantic Roots, Holly Abraham, Louisa Maria, Amy Moore, Ben Francis, and KALA CHNG.

As well as a busy live/recording drummer, AJ is a Clinician & Educator. With an extensive list of private students, he has also taught and performed alongside some of the most renowned drummers; including Eddy Thrower, Emmanuelle Caplette, Gabor Dornyei, JP Bouvet, and Dave Major. AJ is passionate about inspiring and motivating others in their musical journey, and is the author of two books; "The Drummer's Odyssey" and "The Field Manual For The Church Drummer".

In 2018, AJ founded The Drummer's Odyssey Camp and taught at the 2020 Camp; TDOC is an immersive experience for drummer's looking to develop their playing, study with some of the worlds top drummers, and connect deeper with the UK drum community.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Having the opportunity to play on the same stage as The Darkness and Texas was a real highlight. A very fun gig on the main stage, which was also my first time writing the backing tracks for the artist. Being side stage watching TEXAS, while eating crisps with Justin Hawkins was surreal... For Clinics... opening for Eddy Thrower was a real 'next level' moment, and headlining my first drum festival was a real career highlight. Both events really cemented my love for clinics and teaching.
WORDS OF WISDOM FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF DRUMMERS

I grew up playing in church, which really instilled the nature of taking your craft seriously and understanding that art is about something greater than you. Your craft is your gifting, and taking it seriously is important.

My stick of choice is the direct connection to my instrument, so you have to get it right! I trust Vic Firth to help me deliver on the job, and play how I want to play. Whenever I have felt a change in my playing, Vic Firth has always had a solution in their catalogue.
